Ramos quits as Sevilla coach
Juande Ramos has quit Primera Liga club Sevilla, signalling a possible move to Tottenham Hotspur after the resignation of Martin Jol.
The Spanish club said on its website that the 53-year-old had unilaterally rescinded his contract, which was due to expire at the end of the season.
Dutchman Jol left Spurs on Thursday after the club slumped to 18th in the Premier League with just one win from their opening ten matches. Goalkeeping coach Hans Segers has also been asked to step down.
Ramos, who has previously said he had received a "dizzying offer" from the White Hart Lane club, joined Sevilla in 2005 and led them to back-to-back Uefa Cups and secured the King's Cup in June.
They also collected the European Super Cup and the Spanish Super Cup by beating Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively.
Their third-place finish in the league last year put them in the Champions League for the first time this season.
Development coach Clive Allen and youth team boss Alex Inglethorpe are taking charge at Spurs for the time being following the resignation of 51-year-old Jol.
Former Spurs midfielder Gus Poyet, who is currently working under Dennis Wise at Leeds United, is widely being tipped to join as assistant - the League One club say they have yet to have an approach for Poyet.
Jol, who took over from Jacques Santini three years ago, said after news of his departure was confirmed following Spur's 2-1 Uefa Cup Group G at the hands of Getafe at the Lane: "I can understand the position of the club in light of the results.
"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here. Tottenham Hotspur is a special club and I want to thank the terrific staff and players.
"For me the fans were always amazing with their support so I would also like to say thank you - I shall never forget them."
After guiding Tottenham to back-to-back fifth-place finishes, the north Londoners have struggled this season despite spending £40 million this summer on the likes of Darren Bent and Gareth Bale.
Instead of looking like breaking into the Premier League's top-four and thereby having the chance to play in the Champions League, Spurs find themselves in the bottom three.
