MTV has followed the lead of the stars by launching an environmental campaign.

The pop video channel is encouraging viewers to make changes to their lifestyles.

Viewers in 162 countries will have access to the campaign

With Leonardo DiCaprio preaching about climate change in the documentary 11th Hour and Cameron Diaz using hybrid cars to reduce her carbon footprint, MTV is launching a green campaign of its own.

Now MTV Switch will consist of public service announcements, programmes and online resources promoting green lifestyle choices.

Celebrities such as Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Enrique Iglesias, Shaggy, Kelly Rowland and Rufus Wainwright are all backing the campaign.

Viewers in 162 countries will have access to the campaign and the station claims to have a potential audience of 1.5 billion.
