LA Galaxy to decide on Beckham's fitness

Alexi Lalas says it will be up to Los Angeles Galaxy to determine when David Beckham is fit to return from injury.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star has been sidelined by a knee strain which ruled him out of England's recent Euro 2008 qualifiers with Israel and Russia at Wembley.

"When we are confident that he is 100 per cent, physically and mentally, at that time we will see him on the field and not before" - David Beckham

And while the 32-year-old midfielder is keen to prove his fitness ahead of next year's matches against Estonia and Russia as England bid to book their place in next month's European Championship finals, Lalas is refusing to take any risks.

The Galaxy general manager said: "Just because David says he is healthy, that does not mean he is healthy.

"When we are confident that he is 100 per cent, physically and mentally, at that time we will see him on the field and not before."
