Matt Damon has been named the sexiest man alive in 2007 by a US magazine, despite the star initially refusing to accept the title.

The Bourne Ultimatum star wrote a letter to People magazine suggesting American footballer Tom Brady instead, as he didn't feel worthy of the accolade.

The magazine said Damon's refusal "perfectly demonstrated" the reasons why he was chosen for the title

He added: ""You've given an aging suburban dad the ego-boost of a lifetime."
