Selectors expect Vaughan to battle on
Michael Vaughan has told the England cricket selectors he will fight for a place in the Test squad.
Former captain Vaughan has not played for England since he resigned as skipper in August but the ECB have awarded him a central contract for the coming year.
However, his recent batting form for Yorkshire has not been good enough to earn a place in the 15-man squad for the two-Test tour of India in December.
Reports have suggested Vaughan is considering retirement but the batsman has assured England selector Geoff Miller he will try to rediscover his best form.
Miller said: "He fully understands the reasons for the selectors' decision and has made clear to us that he is fully committed to winning back his place in the England Test side.
"Like all centrally-contracted players Michael will be given a clear programme over the next six months which will include training and match practice over the winter period."
England will only take 15 players to India and they could use the touring performance squad as back-up for injuries.
Miller added: "We feel we have got all bases covered. We feel we are playing good cricket."
