Birkdale adjusted for weather

Winds of up to 45mph have swept across Royal Birkdale and organisers at The Open responded by moving several tees forward.

The greens at the Southport links were given a single cut to slow them down.

"We are reading putts more with what the wind is doing than what the green is doing" - Paul Casey

England's Paul Casey carded a three-over-par third round of 73 and revealed the wind had a significant effect on his game.

He said: "I had a ball move on the eighth but I was hovering the putter so there was no penalty.

"We are reading putts more with what the wind is doing than what the green is doing.

"At least they have been very sensible moving those tees. I'm glad they've moved it up on 11, because the bunkers are right in play now. It's an awkward tee shot but a good tee shot."
