Man stabbed to death

A 23-year-old murder victim who died after being stabbed several times has been named as Donald Donlan.

He was killed on an estate in Partington, Manchester. Police found him in the early hours of Saturday morning in an alleyway behind Cheshire Road.

"We have now put high visibility patrols in place, including community contact points and we have set up confidential telephone lines" - Chief Superintendent Janette McCormick

He had been stabbed several times and was taken to Trafford General Hospital, where he later died.

Sources said his death was being linked to tensions between different factions in the area. He was from Partington.

Chief Superintendent Janette McCormick, head of Greater Manchester Police's Trafford division, said: "This tragic incident has left Donald's family and the wider community devastated.

"We are grateful to this close-knit community's support in our inquiry so far, but appealing for anyone with any information around the circumstances surrounding Donald's murder to get in touch with us."

He said: "We have now put high visibility patrols in place, including community contact points and we have set up confidential telephone lines.

"We have been working throughout the day with community leaders to ensure that people in the area still feel safe, and this will continue.

"Incidents of this nature are very rare in Partington."
