The Springfields of America will soon find out which one of them has landed a hometown premiere for The Simpsons film.

Fourteen Springfields across the country - in Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, Ohio, Oregon, Tennessee and Vermont - have submitted videos, and campaigned for votes online.

"I'd have to say to the competition, 'They can eat my shorts'" - Mayor Tim Davlin

The contest has been spirited. Some towns recruited top talent, including Senator Ted Kennedy for Massachusetts and skateboarder Tony Hawk for Oregon, to star in their films and get out the vote.

Springfield, Illinois, has been confident of a victory - the town's mayor Tim Davlin said: "I'd have to say to the competition, 'They can eat my shorts'. "

The winner will be announced at 2pm eastern time (7pm British time).
