England bowlers Matthew Hoggard and Steve Harmison have been dropped for the second Test against New Zealand.

Hoggard and Harmison only took one wicket each during the 189-run defeat in the first Test and the selectors have responded by choosing Stuart Broad and James Anderson to join Ryan Sidebottom and Monty Panesar in the England attack.

"We had a gut feeling that we just needed to make a change" - Michael Vaughan

England captain Michael Vaughan said: "It was a very tough call. We had a gut feeling that we just needed to make a change and we've gone with two of them.

"We felt the attack just needed a bit of a shake-up and it's a great opportunity for Jimmy and Broady to come in and try and establish themselves at this level.

"I also hope Matthew Hoggard and Steve Harmison really fight and try and get their places back because that's going to create a healthy environment as well."

England's batsmen were also disappointing during the first Test in Hamilton, but Vaughan said they deserve another opportunity to find their form.

Vaughan was one of nine players who failed to reach double figures as England were bowled out for 110 in their second innings in Hamilton.

But all of England's top seven batsmen had posted useful scores in the first innings.
