Tens of thousands of revellers have descended on the T in the Park music festival for what has been described as a "mega line-up".

Crowds of 80,000 are expected at the three-day event, which gets under way with The Verve and the Chemical Brothers headlining.

Headline acts appearing at the festival include REM, The Prodigy and Rage Against the Machine.

Others bands set to wow revellers include the Stereophonics, KT Tunstall and Feeder.

Tickets for Scotland's biggest outdoor music event were snapped up within hours when they went on sale.

Other headline acts appearing at the festival include REM, The Prodigy and Rage Against the Machine.

Troubled singer Amy Winehouse is also set to appear - after causing upset last year by pulling out at the last minute due to "exhaustion".

The Kooks, Primal Scream, The Enemy and The Feeling will also perform.

It is also the first year that fans are allowed to camp at the site from the night before the festival starts.

The move follows a review by organisers after heavy rain last year turned car parks into seas of mud, causing some ticket-holders to be turned away.

Forecasters predicted there would be some rain over the weekend at the site in Balado, Kinross-shire, but nothing on the same scale as last year's downpours.
