Aids threatens African tribes
The spread of Aids in Africa is so widespread that some tribes in remote regions are in danager of being wiped out, a charity has claimed.
The revelations - on the eve of World Aids Day - show that while many parts of Africa are becoming successful in stoping the spread of the disease, people in remote regions are suffering even more.
For example, HIV levels in the Turkana region in the north are increasing, despite the fact that those across the rest of the country are falling.
Clinics there are recording an average of 185 new patients each month.
A programme of testing for HIV is under way, but the Turkana tribe's traditions - of taking more than one spouse and body decoration, which is commonly performed in groups using unsterilised razors - are threatening its very existence.
