Fourth man charged over 'Brown plot'

A fourth man who was questioned over an alleged threat to kill Prime Minister Gordon Brown has been charged with a terror offence.

Lancashire police said Muhammad Ali Mumtaz Ahmad, 24, will face a charge of possessing terriorist material when he appears before Westminster Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Ahmad was questioned after he was arrested in Blackburn almost a week ago

Greater Manchester Police were also granted a warrant for further detention to question a 29-year-old man arrested on August 26 in Derby.

Ishaq Kanmi, 22, was also arrested along with brothers Abbas Iqbal, 23, and Ilyas AIqbal, 21.

The three were remanded in custody after appearing in court on Friday.

Kanmi, of Cromwell St, is accused of threatening to "eliminate" Mr Brown and Mr Blair and of being a member of al-Qaeda and recruiting others to join.

Abbas Iqbal, of Percival St is charged with posessing terrorist material, including camouflage equipment and Ilyas Iqbal is also charged with possessing terrorist material and conducting research into terror, which he denies.
