Sir Trevor McDonald is to dabble in the world of comedy when he presents ITV's new satirical comedy series News Knight.

The series is set to start airing in June with the veteran news anchor hosting the show with comedian Marcus Brigstocke and two other well know comics who will change each week.

"I'm looking forward to hosting this show as it will give me the chance to approach the news headlines from another perspective" - Sir Trevor McDonald

Sir Trevor stepped down from his role of anchor on ITN News in 2005 after more than 30 years in the job.

Since then he has continued to be associated with topical news journalism presenting the Tonight programme on ITV1. He is also set to take up the presenters job on This Is Your Life, which is returning to ITV after a 15 year absence.

In the upcoming programme the 67-year-old will look over the news that has captured the country's attention over the previous seven days, but far from presenting it in a serious way Sir Trevor will be taking a more lighthearted approach.

He is clearly looking forward to the role, saying: "I'm looking forward to hosting this show as it will give me the chance to approach the news headlines from another perspective."

He continued: "I've been a part of the news at ITV for over 30 years now and this new show will let me show viewers another side to my personality."
