Police in Los Angeles say there are looking into claims that someone drugged pop star Britney Spears but have not launched a formal investigation.

In a statement, Police Captain Kyle Jackson said that the allegations "are being considered" but that no suspect had been identified.

The singer's mother, Lynne Spears told a court that the star's on-off manager and companion Sam Lutfi had drugged Spears and taken control of her life, but Lutfi strongly denies any involvement.

After the court papers were filed, Lutfi was served with a restraining order banning him from coming near Britney, her home, or her family.

The troubled singer is currently under a court-ordered conservatorship.

Meanwhile, the attorney who claims to represent the pop star in the legal wrangling over control of her affairs has vowed to continue his fight, one day after a federal judge ruled he is not the singer's lawyer.

Jon Eardley has said he was hired by Spears on February 12, but a California court had already appointed her father James Spears to control her personal and business affairs and another attorney to represent Spears.
