Denzel Washington and Kate Winslet have been honoured at the 16th Annual Britannia Awards in LA.

The event, put on by the Los Angeles chapter of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), was attended by the likes of Jodie Foster, Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan.

Washington won the 2007 Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Filmmaking, while Winslet received the Britannia Award for British Artist of the Year

Reese Witherspoon, Kathy Bates, and Famke Janssen were also in attendance.

Winslet said she believes it's worthwhile bringing actors from the UK and US together.

She said: "I just think that with a ceremony like this where BAFTA is coming over to LA, it really tells us that this small community that we have in England is merging with the larger community over here and there's just a lot to be said for that. It's really an honour."

Director and screenwriter Richard Curtis was also given the inaugural BAFTA/LA Humanitarian Award in recognition of his ongoing efforts to help impoverished people in Africa.
