Sound homecoming for Macca
Sir Paul McCartney thrilled fans in Liverpool taking to the stage to mark the city's Capital of Culture Year.
Comedian Peter Kay welcomed Sir Paul onto the stage at Anfield Stadium saying: "It's my duty to reveal that Britain has got talent."
The 65-year-old began his set with Hippy Hippy Shake, followed by Jet and Drive My Car. Dressed in a black, 60s-style suit, the former Beatle said to the crowd: "Thank you for coming tonight - in the city of culture - at the centre of the universe."
One of the highlights of the show, called Liverpool Sound, was a performance of Live And Let Die, which was accompanied by an impressive firework display.
On stage Sir Paul spoke of his happiness at coming back to his home city, saying: "Every time I go back to Liverpool all the memories come flooding back. My time with the lads."
The show also saw performances by The Zutons, with a set list including Valerie and Why Won't You Give Me Your Love, as well as the Kaiser Chiefs, whose songs included Ruby and The Angry Mob.
Lead singer Ricky Wilson joked with the crowd of Paul McCartney fans: "Now a new song, though I realise they'll all be new to some of you."
Sir Paul finished his energetic 1hr 45min set with The Beatles classic I Saw Her Standing There, alongside Foo Fighters' frontman Dave Grohl.
The former Beatle told the crowd: "You've been brilliant tonight. I knew you would be."
He added: "Thank you all you Liverpudlians for showing up."
Earlier in the day, his daughter Stella McCartney unveiled her latest autumn and winter fashion range at a special show in the city.
The event, at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (Lipa), was attended by Sir Paul and John Lennon's widow Yoko Ono.
George Harrison's widow Olivia Harrison and Coleen McLoughlin were also at the show, which included singing and dancers.
Describing the collection, Ms McCartney said: "Naturally sexy, naturally confident and modern."
Speaking about staging a fashion show in Liverpool and visiting the city, Ms McCartney, whose father is lead patron of Lipa, said: "It's great. We just thought it would be really good fun to come and do it and good to work with Lipa.
"I'm very proud of my family involvement with Lipa."
