McClaren will return to face Arsenal
Steve McClaren faces the intriguing prospect of a return to London to take on Arsenal in the third qualifying round of the Champions League with his new Dutch club FC Twente.
The two-leg tie will be the first occasion that the two sides meet and Wenger will surely consider himself the luckier of the two managers, with McClaren facing the unenviable task of trying to upset perennial knock-out-stagers Arsenal.
Elsewhere, Liverpool face a potentially troublesome tie against against the plucky Belgian team Standard Liege.
Rangers - providing they get through their second leg against Lithuanian club FBK Kaunas, can breath more easily than their British counterparts with a tie against either Bruce Rioch's AaB Aalborg or FK Modrica.
The draw took place at the home of European football in Nyon, Switzerland, with outspoken Uefa president Michel Platini inexplicably absent.
While the majority of the larger European clubs will leave Nyon confident of progressing to the latter stages, one especially mouth-watering tie will involve pedigree sides Athletico Madrid and FC Schalke.
