Russia nominates new prime minister
Russian President Vladimir Putin has nominated a virtually unknown financial market expert to be his new prime minister.
Victor Zubkov is to take up the position after Mr Putin earlier accepted Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov's resignation.
Mr Zubkov, who is relatively unknown in Russian politics, graduated as an economist and ran state farms in the Leningrad region.
He then moved to Putin's home city of St Petersburg to work in the administration.
The lower house of the Russian parliament, the Duma, is set to vote on Mr Zubkov's nomination on Friday.
Earlier, Mr Putin met Mr Fradkov at the Kremlin to receive his resignation and thank him for his work.
The US government supported the move and said it hopes to continue good relations with Moscow.
