Scottish and Southern cuts utility prices

Scottish and Southern is the latest utility firm to join the energy price war.

The supplier said its gas and electricity bills will be slashed by 12 per cent and 5 per cent respectively.

Scottish and Southern's introduction of lower gas rates begins on March 1 with electricity bills falling a month later, from April 1.

The company is the second energy firm to announce price cuts this week after Powergen said six million customers will see lower bills from April 30.

British Gas cuts sparked the price war three weeks ago with its changes coming into force on March 12

Npower also announced a tariffs drop which comes into effect on April 30.
