Roy Keane to lift Black Cats for United

Roy Keane faces a massive test of his managerial credentials as he bids to lift Sunderland for their visit to Manchester United following their Carling Cup exit at League One side Luton Town.

The Blacks Cats thrashed Luton 5-0 on the final day of last season in the Championship but suffered a 3-0 defeat at Kenilworth Road this time around.

"It's a massive disappointment - the biggest since I took the job. I've only been a manager two minutes. It's how you respond to it" - Roy Keane

Veteran Hatters striker Paul Furlong bagged a brace after David Bell had opened the scoring against the hapless Premier League side, who had right-back Greg Halford sent off for a second booking midway through the second half.

Keane said after the Wearsiders' third successive defeat: "It's a massive disappointment - the biggest since I took the job. I've only been a manager two minutes. It's how you respond to it. We're all disappointed.

"We didn't do the basics right and we got punished for it. We've just got to reflect on the game, but if you don't do the basics you're never going to win a game of football."

Football League newcomers Morecambe produced the biggest shock, knocking out Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-1 after extra time at Molineux while Watford were beaten 2-0 at League One Southend United.
