Joss Stone's latest album has made history by being the highest new entry by a British female artist for 20 years.

Introducing Joss Stone entered in the Billboard album chart at number two, beating new entries over the years by Dido, Annie Lennox and the Spice Girls.

The 19-year-old's previous two albums Soul Sessions and Mind Body and Soul peaked at 38 and 11 respectively.

Both went on to sell one million copies each in the US with combined worldwide sales of over seven million.

The news marks a change of fortune for the Devon-born singer who's failed to make the same impact in her own country.

After being slated for her mid-American twang at the Brits and for turning up late at a recent gig, her album only managed to reach number 12 in the UK chart.
