Transformer explosion rocks Manhattan

An underground transformer has exploded in midtown Manhattan in New York.
The blast happened near Grand Central Station near 41st Street and many pedestrians were seen fleeing from the scene.
Police said the blast did not look suspicious and they dismissed earlier witness reports that a building had collapsed

A police spokeswoman said: "We have a transformer explosion at 41st Street and Lexington Avenue. It happened about 6 pm this evening.
"We have a building that's a bit shaky, but nothing has collapsed."
Subway trains were diverted away from Grand Central Station.
