The arrival of unseasonably cold weather is being predicted by the Met Office for the week ahead.

It has forecast daytime temperatures will remain in single figures, with the thermometer reaching just 3C in the North and no more than 8C in the South.

Widespread frosts are also being predicted with overnight temperatures falling as low as -3C.

Deputy chief forecaster at the Met Office, Tony Waters said: "Cold northerly winds will bring the risk of snow showers, especially across the northeast of Scotland.

"However, we shouldn't be surprised if we see a few snow showers almost anywhere on Tuesday."
