Coldplay album shoots to top spot

Just three days after its release, Coldplay's latest offering has shot to the top of UK albums chart.

The band's fourth album, Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends, had sold 302,000 copies, to become one of the fastest-selling records in history.

Last week's number one, Paul Weller's 22 Dreams, fell to fourth, behind Neil Diamond's Home Before Dark and Duffy's Rockferry.

Other new entries included indie-rockers The Fratellis, who charted at number five with Here We Stand, and hip-hop production trio NERD whose Seeing Sounds album entered at number 20.

Meanwhile, dance act Mint Royale remain at the top of the UK singles chart with Singin' In The Rain.

The song stormed to the top of the charts after being used in a dance routine by Britain's Got Talent winner George Sampson.
