The multifaceted Queen Latifah is taking on climate change in her next role.

Fresh from the success of Hairspray, the academy-award nominated actress and musician is adopting the role of eco-campaigner.

She is narrating the documentary Arctic Tale which was created by the same people as the popular March of the Penguins

It illustrates the harsh realities of living in a polar climate.

Latifah said she hopes that by humanising animals the film is able to educate people - especially children - about the effects of climate change.

"I think when you go see a movie like this, when you get endeared to the characters and all the while you're seeing that their lives are affected by climate change."
