Two held over haircut shooting

Police are quizzing two people over the murder of a teenager who was shot as he went for a haircut.

Six people including a 13-year-old boy were arrested on Friday after Tarek Chaiboub, 17, was shot dead inside or just outside a barber's shop in the Burngreave area of Sheffield.

"I spent some time with Tarek's father and if people want to know what devastation this can lead to then just listen to parents like him" - Tarek Chaiboub

Three men and a woman have been released on bail while a 19-year-old and 20-year-old remain in custody, police said.

A spokesman said: "Warrants for their further detention will be presented to Sheffield magistrates later this morning to enable our inquiries to continue."

Senior officers repeated their belief Tarek's murder could have been gang-related and urged youngsters not to get involved.

Witnesses differ about whether Tarek, who was nicknamed GT, was shot inside Frenchies hairdresser's on Spital Street or whether he was outside when the gun was fired.

A handgun was found near his body and detectives are still trying to establish whether Tarek was carrying it. Officers have confirmed they still have not recovered the murder weapon.

Tarek died a week ago, days after he was subjected to a knife attack which left him in hospital.

He was killed just a few hundred metres from where 16-year-old Jonathan Matondo was murdered with a shot to head last year after a dispute between gangs named after the city's S3 and S4 postcodes.

Sheffield police commander Chief Supt Paul Broadbent said: "I spent some time with Tarek's father and if people want to know what devastation this can lead to then just listen to parents like him.

"It is one of the most thought provoking and emotional moments in my 26 years of police experience."
