Body found in hunt for missing boy

Police searching for a nine-year-old boy who went missing after fishing with friends on a small lake have recovered a body from the water.

According to a police spokesman, the boy was last seen struggling in the water by his two friends, who ran to get help.

Police divers, two ambulance crews, a helicopter and the fire service spent the night searching for the youngster and appeals for help were made through local taxi companies and the community.

The boy was reported missing after getting into difficulty in the water at 6pm last night.

Paul Baker, West Midlands Ambulance Service incident officer, said: "Ambulance crews were at the scene throughout the night, assisting with the search of the lake for the missing youngster.

"Crews have stayed at the scene long after their duty finished to support the rescue teams."

The body was found by police divers on the bed of the lake at 1.50am and is expected to be formally identified later.

A police spokesman said the death was not being treated as suspicious, adding that a report would be prepared for the coroner.
