England wait on Flintoff for Lord's Test

England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff will be given until the last possible moment to prove his fitness ahead of the first Test against the West Indies at Lord's.

The 29-year-old Lancashire star managed to bowl at pace on the eve of Peter Moore's first game as England coach.

"It's been a long-term injury for him, and the key is, 'Is he fit enough to play a full part in the game?"' - Andrew Strauss

But it will not be known until the morning how his sore left ankle reacts to the work-out.

Stand-in England skipper Andrew Strauss said: "He had two good spells out there this morning, but we're just going to have to wait and see how he comes out on the back of that.

"It's been a long-term injury for him, and the key is, 'Is he fit enough to play a full part in the game?"'

Flintoff's Lancashire team-mate, seamer Jimmy Anderson, has been summoned as cover while Owais Shah could fill in as a batsman if the all-rounder fails in his battle to be fit.

Flintoff, who has twice had surgery on the problem joint in the past, suffered soreness in his ankle following Lancashire's match against Hampshire at the Rose Bowl last weekend.
