Man arrested as siege ends

A man has been arrested after barricading himself and a six-year-old girl in a house for nearly two days.

Police were called to the address in the Eastfield area of Scarborough on Monday night following reports of a domestic disturbance.

Mr Eames is believed to have been drinking and reportedly barricaded himself in a bedroom in the house in Herdborough Road armed with a knife

A man identified as 32-year-old Paul Eames was taken into police custody for questioning at 2.29pm on Wednesday after the 39-and-a-half-hour armed siege came to an end.

North Yorkshire Police said the young girl was being cared for at a place of safety.

Mr Eames is believed to have been drinking and reportedly barricaded himself in a bedroom in the house in Herdborough Road armed with a knife.

Police negotiators entered the house and talked to him while officers from the force's Firearms Support Unit cordoned off the street and took up positions.

Mr Eames' parents Margaret and David Eames appealed to their son from their home in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, saying: "Come out son. Give yourself up son."
