People Awards cancelled due to strike
The 2008 People's Choice Awards set to be hosted by Queen Latifah has been cancelled as a result of the ongoing Hollywood writers' strike.
It comes a day after union bosses behind the strike rejected a request for protesting members to be allowed to write scripts for the awards ceremonies.
It has been claimed an alternative would be televised, but it is not known if Queen Latifah would still be involved in the show.
Also, there would be no red carpet and the media would be barred from the event.
Reports suggest the organisers of the Golden Globe Awards on January 13 may follow suit, and scrap a planned live telecast.
The writers, who began their action on November 5, plan to picket any awards shows, which could see many nominated stars not attending
