Joaquin clashes with director

Actor Joaquin Phoenix and director James Gray have clashed while promoting the film We Own The Night.

James was asked what made Joaquin such a strong actor.

"Joaquin has great internal conflict on screen" - James Gray

He said: "Joaquin has great internal conflict on screen. He radiates torture, which is great, because what you want from actors is danger."

But Joaquin disagreed.

As he sat next to James at a press conference, he mumbled: "That's not true."

James added: "I have an addiction to narrative. I'm a big fan of what Americans used to do very well, which is to tell a story elegantly with emotion and hopefully without a lot of flash."
