Eight children killed in freak crash

A freak accident in Pakistan left eight pupils dead and dozens injured after a tractor smashed into a school building.

A tractor crashed into a donkey cart which then smashed into the wall of the primary school, bringing it down and killing eight children, police said.

About 50 children were in Thatha Malkaan village school in the eastern province of Punjab when the accident happened and at least 18 children were hurt.

The dead and injured children at the government-run school ranged in age from five to 13 years. Their teacher escaped injury.

"The donkey-cart rammed into the wall after being hit by a tractor," said police official Shaukat Mohammad Joya.

Six children were killed on the spot and two died later.

The drivers of both the tractor and the donkey-cart were being questioned. The donkey survived the accident.
