Unsettled winger Cristiano Ronaldo will remain at Old Trafford next season, says Red Devils' manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Ferguson says he met the 23-year-old in Lisbon for clear-the-air talks on his future.

"I can say he'll be a Manchester United player next season. That's our stance - he won't be sold" - Sir Alex Ferguson.

The veteran manager said: "The meeting went well - I think we both put across our points of view - where we stand and where the player stands.

United will hope that Ferguson's comments at a press conference in South Africa will put an end to rumours linking Ronaldo with a transfer to Real Madrid.

Ronaldo has been heavily linked with Real and has said it would be a "dream" to join the Spanish side. He recently provoked fury and derison after agreeing with comments by Fifa president Sepp Blatter that transfer trends were "modern slavery".
