Star-studded music event

The man behind some of the most successful bands of our time has been honoured with a Music Industry Trust Award.

Take That, Girls Aloud, Mika and X Factor judge Simon Cowell all gathered at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London, to salute Universal Music Group International chairman and CEO Lucian Grainge.

U2 were guests of honour and presented an achievement award to the Universal boss.

During the star-studded bash, the 1,200 guests enjoyed performances from Snow Patrol, Razorlight, Mika and Take That.

Tributes on film were made by personalities from the world of business and musicians including Mariah Carey, the Pussycat Dolls, Michael Winner, Elton John, Bob Geldof and U2 manager Paul McGuinness.

In his acceptance speech Mr Grainge said: "This recognition is an honour, and I'm delighted to be able to share it with the many artists, colleagues and friends who have been at the center of my professional and personal life for the past 30 years.

He continued: "I'm proud that music is the only industry I have ever worked in. Music has given me opportunity and fulfillment beyond measure, and I'm grateful for that."

Mr Grainge is celebrating 30 years in the music industry, having worked with artists including Eurythmics, U2, Sir Elton John, Take That, Metallica, Snow Patrol, Amy Winehouse, Mika and Duffy.
