Alonso: 'McLaren want Lewis to win Brit GP'

Fernando Alonso has claimed that McLaren would prefer his team-mate Lewis Hamilton wins Sunday's British Grand Prix.

But the 25-year-old Spaniard, whose relationship with Hamilton has been questioned as the British rookie has outshone the reigning world champion to date, has insisted he has no complaints.

"The team wanted me to win in Barcelona and they will want Hamilton to win at Silverstone" - Fernando Alonso

Hamilton, who has finished every race to date on the podium including victories in the US and Canada last month, has opened up a 14-point lead over Alonso at the top of the World Drivers' Championship standings.

But the man who joined McLaren having helped Renault to back-to-back World Constructors' titles said: "I think that, yes, they would prefer that and I don't think there will be any argument.

"We will be in England and we have a Spanish driver and an English driver and the Englishman is leading the championship.

"So if he wins it will help the team. The team wanted me to win in Barcelona and they will want Hamilton to win at Silverstone."
